Heavy Truck Sandblasting & Surface Preparation Services
Strip rust, scale, and failing paint down to clean, bare metal, so every new coating bonds properly and lasts.
Paint Only Lasts as Long as the Surface Underneath
Deep oxidation and failing paint weaken the safety, compliance, and resale value of your commercial haulers. Painting over hidden road brine, mill scale, or early corrosion leads to bubbling, peeling, and premature coating failure.
At Dependable Paint, our heavy truck sandblasting services strip transport chassis, trailers, and components down to clean metal. We match the blasting media to each surface and handle blasting, cleaning, and priming under one roof.
Proper surface preparation before truck painting is what separates a finish that lasts years from one that peels within a season.
Services we offer
Sandblasting Services Matched to Every Metal and Component
01
Chassis & Frame Rail Sandblasting
We blast Class 8 frames with angular abrasives, removing scale and old paint. Our truck frame sandblasting near me service fits full-length chassis.
02
Rust Removal for Commercial Trucks
Our rust removal for commercial trucks strips corrosion from frames, cabs, and undercarriages down to clean metal, preventing deep structural damage.
03
Trailer and Tanker Sandblasting
Our trailer and tanker sandblasting removes worn coatings, concrete buildup, and oxidation from dump bodies, flatbeds, and tankers, creating a uniform surface.
04
Aluminum Surface Cleaning
For aluminum tanks and panels, we use fine garnet or glass media at low pressure to remove oxidation without gouging or pitting.
05
Wheel & Component Restoration
We blast steel wheels, brackets, and attachments in dedicated cabinets to eliminate rust scale, prevent bead leaks, and prepare surfaces for protective sealing
When Your Truck Needs Sandblasting
Some surfaces are too far gone for sanding or touch-ups. Book a sandblasting assessment if you notice:
- Flaking rust scale on frame rails, crossmembers, or spring hangers
- Paint peeling off in sheets, often a sign of poor prep on a past repaint
- Pitting in the steel where rust has started eating into the metal
- Several old paint layers building up and cracking on the chassis
- A safety inspection note about frame or undercarriage corrosion
- Rust buildup on steel wheels causing bead leaks or slow air loss
- A used truck or trailer with unknown coatings you want to strip and restart
Blasting back to clean metal now stops corrosion before it turns into structural repairs.

How it works
Our Heavy Truck Sandblasting Process
01
Degrease & Pressure Wash
Blasting over grease drives oil into the metal and contaminates the media. We degrease and hot pressure wash the chassis first.
02
Mask & Protect Components
We seal wiring harnesses, air lines, brake valves, sensors, and wheel bearings with heavy-duty blasting tape to keep the media out.
03
Blast to Near-White Metal
Our standard target is SSPC-SP 10 (Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning). At least 95% of each surface area must be free of visible rust, mill scale, and old coatings.
04
Verify the Surface Profile
We measure profile depth with replica tape, targeting 1.5 to 2.5 mils (about 0.038 to 0.064 mm). This gives the primer the right texture to grip the steel.
05
Blow Down & Prime Same Shift
Dry, oil-free compressed air removes remaining dust. The chassis then moves straight into the spray booth for a zinc-rich epoxy primer before flash rust can form.
Fleet Sandblasting Services Across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Operators Trust
We provide fleet sandblasting services that Nova Scotia businesses rely on, from single-truck owner-operators to large municipal and commercial fleets. Coastal humidity and heavy road salt use make proper surface preparation especially important in Atlantic Canada.

FAQs
Heavy Truck Sandblasting FAQs
Everything you need to know about timelines, warranties, and getting your fleet refinished.
How much does sandblasting a truck cost?
Cost depends on the truck’s size, the amount of rust and old coating, and whether you need the full chassis or specific components blasted. Priming and masking also affect the total. We provide an itemized estimate after inspection.
Why don't you use silica sand for sandblasting?
Silica sand breaks down into fine dust that can cause silicosis, a serious lung disease. It also leaves heavy dust that weakens paint adhesion. We use angular abrasives like slag and garnet, which cut efficiently and create a more consistent surface profile.
Can sandblasting warp my truck's panels?
Yes, if it’s done incorrectly. Heavy media at high pressure can distort thin steel and aluminum through heat and impact. We process thin-gauge panels separately with lighter media and lower pressure to keep them flat.
How do you protect wiring and mechanical parts?
Before blasting, we mask wiring harnesses, brake valves, air lines, sensors, and wheel bearings with heavy-duty blasting tape. This keeps abrasive media out of sensitive systems.
Can you sandblast a frame covered in grease and oil?
Not until it’s cleaned. Blasting over grease pushes oil deeper into the metal and ruins the surface profile. We degrease and hot pressure wash every chassis first.
What is flash rust, and how do you prevent it?
Flash rust is a thin layer of oxidation that forms on freshly blasted steel exposed to moisture. We prevent it by blowing down and priming the surface within the same shift.
Can you sandblast aluminum tanks and panels?
Yes. Aluminum needs a gentler approach, so we use finer media at lower pressure to remove oxidation and coatings without pitting the metal.
How long does a full chassis blast and prime take?
It depends on the truck’s size and rust condition. A standard Class 8 tractor chassis typically takes one to two working shifts to blast, clean, inspect, and prime.
